So I just realized that the opening song for The Big Bang Theory includes the line: "The autotrophs began to drool".

Aren't autotrophs plants?

	I was just googling that line from the song to see if I was hearing it right and what they meant, and I found your page (I realize I'm commenting two years after your entry :-). I guess they're referring to the gradual evolutionary transition from autotrophs (plants are just one example) to heterotrophs (for example, animals). (Reply to this)
